KiD CuDi – Man On The Moon: The End Of Day (Review)

by SoSickWitItYo on September 16, 2009

There are few terms that come to mind when I am thinking of how to describe this album.  Do I dare say that this album is one of the best of all time?  I would be hard pressed to say that, especially because there are so many quality albums out there.  I will go as far to say that this LP was up there on the “Greatest Albums” list.  When I say “Greatest Albums” I am talking about albums in their entirety.  Sure, you could argue that the album had a few standout tracks, and the rest were all solid, but when you listen to Man On The Moon: The End Of Day in fullness, you will realize that it is “Great” in all senses of the term.  There are very musicians out there who can command and tap into his or her listeners inner-being and be able to give their fans a mix of everything.  On this album, unlike most, CuDi gives the listener a complete and all-around album which consists of different tempo’s, and different meanings.  Unlike most albums, this one is split up into five acts (sort of taking the stance that Ludacris did with his album when Theater Of The Mind came out and it was like a movie), and on top of that, it does not feature heavy productions from just one person, and on top of that, Mr. CuDi does not feature many musicians on his freshman release.

Friends of mine ask me why I have been on the CuDi hype train ever since A Kid Named Cudi dropped, and this is the exact reason why!  What many people out there don’t understand is that CuDi can sing and rap.  Since he can do this, it makes him one of the most versatile musicians in the game.  On the album, and what makes it such a great album as a whole is that that CuDi sings the hooks, and raps his lyrics.  He possesses a unique style that is hard to replicate and there is only one other musician in the game right now who I think is as versatile or possibly more versatile then KiD CuDi.  Another reason why I loved this album, and more from a music site runner stand point, is that Kanye West did not turn this into a Mr. West album.  Yes, he appeared on the album, and did his fair share of work on the album, but he did not take the role that most musicians in Kanye’s place do.  CuDi is showing the music world that he is his own musician, and is someone who can do big things without the help of someone who has already made it!  Nowadays, you see someone who does the majority of producing on the album, and you see a lot of features.  Take Jay-Z’s most recent album, Blueprint 3 for example.  On BP3, the album features a large amount of features and is primarily produced by two musicians (Kanye West & Timbaland).  I am not saying this style of album production and creation is a bad thing, but in CuDi’s first album, he shows that he is the one making the music and it is in a way a personal connection between him and his fans.  Sure, Common plays a heavy role on the album because he narrates the story of this play, but for the most part, this is the CuDi show.  I have never been one to go crazy over an album, but when I bought my copy of the album, and popped it into my CD Player (that’s right, a CD Player, not an iPod!!!), I instantly fell in love.  The album is one of the first albums that I have listened all the way through, not only once, but multiple times.

If you haven’t picked up your KiD CuDi album yet, then there is truly something wrong with you.  The album was epic, in all senses of the word.  CuDi takes the listener on a journey that can only be experienced by listening to the album in its entirety, not skipping a single second on the track listing.  I truly feel that this album may be the best one to come out in 2009, and as many predicted, CuDi delivered and met the expectations (in fact exceeded expectations) with his first release.  I give this album an A+, hands down.  There really is no other grade to give this album, from the production to the lyrical scheme, to the cover and story the album tells, an all around A+!  If you don’t have the album, then you need to go to your local music store, iTunes, or Amazon, and pick this album up, you are truly missing out!  Support the artists who make great music, purchase the album, and show your love the right way!

Tyler, or whomever may have wrote this, Cudi’s album was great, but there is no WAY you can even come CLOSE to putting it as the best album of all time, I mean, Cudi’s first mixtape was even better than it, and that was not close to the top.

I guess, but it is most definitely the best album (in entirety) that I have heard in a very, very, very long time! When it comes to production, features, and feel, the album has something unique and special. I guess it is a stretch to say, “of all time” but I think it is definitely up there. I mean “Thriller” “Dark Side of the Moon” both crazy albums, and not taking away from them, but as a hip-hop album as a whole, I think it is one of the best in our time (or in recent times). I think it is just very well put together and was an all around solid package!

Im going to have to agree with the writer of this article, this is by far one of the best albums of recent time, especially in the hip hop game. Looking back we had good cd’s like tha carter 3, 808’s and heartbreaks, lupe’s the cool, and the blue print 3. But honestly, which one of those, or any for that matter, is so well put together that a fan can listen to the WHOLE album time after time. this is just a great! great! great! example at a young innovative act at his prime, and its only Cudi’s freshman album!
