Julius The Myth - Trapped In The Mind (Review)

The tape is finally here, and we apalogize for being late with this one! It has been sitting in my mailbox for a bit, and we reviewed it, but getting the final touches on this one was just something we forgot to do, so without further a due, I present to you, Julius The Myth – Trapped In The Mind (Vol. 1): Get Myth or Die Tryin’.

Unlike many up and comers out there, Julius The Myth has both the lyrical skill and the beats to back up his style. Not many musicians in today’s music game have the ability to find the right beats and tunes to match the style in which they are rapping in. That is the key difference between “successful” rappers and the ones that just don’t have what it takes to make it. Julius has been given a gift to express his music in a fashion that makes you want more. As I began listening to the mixtape, I found myself getting more and more eager for the next track. Songs like, “Step Ya Game Up” and “Lemon Grass” really define what this tape is. I can confidently say that I enjoyed every track on this free mixtape (and the fact that it was free made it 100x better for me!). The Breakdown:

Intro:
Well Julius starts the mixtape off strong, and goes in over Jay Electronica’s sick nasty Exhibit beat. Consider this one of the normal tracks and not just a short welcoming to the tape.

Lemon Grass:
Well he does it big with his first formal track on the tape, and it is arguably one of my favorites! “Lemon Grass” samples some sick stuff and I think you can expect some of this sorta stuff from The Myth in future works! It’s really dope, and I think more people need to develop a style such as the one that Julius has set up for himself.

Strictly Business (Freestyle):
Ah yea! We’re goin’ in on this one! Julius brings the fire on this freestyle, I haven’t heard anyone kill a freestyle like this before, a must check out if you are a Hip-Hop head!

Gabrielle:
This one was sent to me a while ago, and I am not going to front one bit, I still rock this song regularly. It has that classy beat to it, to go with Julius’ sick nasty lyrical scheme. I love musicians that tell stories in their songs, and this is “Exhibit A” right here! A must listen to say the least!

Hit ‘Em:
Well I won’t relinquish too much information on this track, but you all will be seeing it again very soon! “Hit ‘Em” is just a hype track that gets anyone pumped for whatever they are going to do! Just rocked it in the car today while I was cruising (at the speed limit of course) on the highway. I am truly digging the beat on this one!

Only The Kid:
This is that sweet sound that Julius brings on some of his tracks. The beat sells it completely, and I love it. This song is something that I have been rocking during the cold winter days. Definitely vibes with the feel outside and it is something that is just “nice” all around.

Step Your Game Up:
Ya’ll need to step ya games up, because if you don’t, you’ll never be able to catch up with the straight fire that Julius possesses. I mean this track was just mad crazy! This is what Julius is all about on this tape, making crazy dope songs and gracing your ears with his tunes.

Blueprint (‘05 Throwback):
2005? Sheesh, that’s a while ago! Well if anything, this just proves that he has been bringing the heat since ‘05! Beat is straight fire, and he goes in on this one. By the way, Julius the Myth has been goin at it much earlier then ‘05, and let me tell ya’ll something, he has been going hard on every track ever since he started! I don’t know how this guy does it!

Dear Winter:
Leaked this one a while back, so there isn’t too much to say other then the beat is crazy and he murders the beat. Anyone willing to sit on the jury on this case? All the evidence is there, Julius The Myth killed this one!

Didn’t You?:
Ah, here we go again, one of those sorta slow songs, and he gets his slow flow on. Crazy lyrics here, you all need to check it out now and vibe with this one!

Wake Up:
Well if you have been in a coma as to whether or not Julius is a Myth or not, I think it is time that you all wake up to this track and see for yourself! I am so surprised this guy hasn’t been signed yet! Another one of those slow songs, but he does it big on this one!

Beginners Luck (The Winner’s Up):
Great way to end the tape, fast paced and high octane track. Winner’s Up boys and girls, catch the tape below!

Overall, I give this tape an A+, no if’s, and’s or but’s about this one! Cop the free mixtape below, and spread the love around.
