Shannon McArthur – Alittl'Bit'A Everything (Review + Download)

by Country MANE on January 26, 2010

This guy just keeps on bringing it, and he’s growing on me more and more.  Before Shannon McArthur sent me this Mixtape, he explained to me the history behind it.  “I put these songs together and all of my friends and family really liked the combination of the work, they said it was a little bit of everything I deliver, So I want to release it titled Alittl’bit’a Everything, enjoy dawg”.  You heard the man… Enjoy.

“Anywhere you want”

This is a song purely about love.  And in the mere 3:47, this love song expresses all aspects of the word and feeling we call love. Physical, emotional, how one can learn from love, and learn to love.  Hell I could learn a thing or two from this song, not to mention the excellent guitar playing here.

“Chasing You”

Shannon McArthur is a great storyteller in his songs.  You can really visualize everything as the lyrics come out you in the soothing way he delivers it, especially with this damn good chorus.  Something went bad with a girl Shannon McArthur was really diggin, and I’ll let him tell you the rest of the story after you download this mixtape.

“In and Out”

Like the girl he’s talkin about, this song is a ten just like a dime.  Personally I know this same feeling, and it’s just the opposite. “If some girl comes and breaks my heart you’re gonna get a damn good song out of it”, said McArthur.  Boy, I think everyone knows that feeling down to the nerve.

“Someone New”

This is a real great mellow song about a chick Shannon McArthur was just nuts about.  Absolutely a very relaxing song that’ll just make you think.  Give it a listen or two.

“Side to Side”

Well gahhhh dang this song just knocks me right outta my boots.  Really may be my favorite of these six songs.  Shannon once told me, “I am such a sucker for girls”, and you can really see his passion and diligence in “Side to Side” with the creativity in his symbolism and guitar riffs here.  Just a completely superb song.

“Chuck Taylor”

A bit of a different song, I can’t quite pinpoint why but here’s a theory:  This song seems to be about a girl he’s into that is different than most of the girls he’s been with.  Shannon is way into her but not sure about a lot of things cause it seems as though he’s in a whole new ballpark.  See for yourself though, a very good ending to the mixtape.

Reviewing this was a lot of fun.  Shannon McArthur’s music is really growing on me.  I once simply asked Shannon to write a few songs to make a mixtape. He flat out told me, “That’s impossible, I can’t just write a song, it has to come to me in the moment ya know?” I thought, c’mon now any songwriter should be able to throw something creative down, but after listening to his music you see all the fervor that he puts into these songs that flow straight out of his heart and soul. Some might say love songs are gone like a 1959 Cadillac, but hell… Shannon McArthur may have brought a new definition to love songs. Alittl’bit’a Everything gets an A. GET IT.
