TGLR Interview With Mick Boogie

by SoSickWitItYo on April 14, 2010

In case there are people out there who don’t know about Mick Boogie, we’ll give you a short background about him and then check out the interview we did with him below!  When it comes to music, Boogie knows what’s up!  He has put together some of my personal favorite mixtapes such as the Jay-Z and Coldplay mashup tape, Viva La Hova.  Check out that mixtape and some of his other works by visiting him home page.  Peep the interview below, and get to know more about one of the biggest names in the online music game!!!

TGLR: Hey Mick Boogie, what’s good?

Mick Boogie: Craziness. Packing for a big Asia tour. Leaving in the morning!

TGLR: I don’t know if many Hip-Hop fans out there know exactly what you do, so can you break it down for them?

Mick Boogie: Lots of stuff. International party rocker. Creative mixtape deejay. Blogger. Co-owner of Motivation Boutique. I try to stay busy.

TGLR: One of my favorite mixtapes to bump in the dorm rooms and car is the Viva La Hova mixtape, can you tell us what it was like working on that tape?

Mick Boogie: Super fun. We tried to create something that feels musical and natural. Organic, even. That is one of my favorite projects I’ve done… and the fact Jay-Z and Coldplay liked it made it even better.

TGLR: Where do you draw inspiration from to do what you do?

Mick Boogie: Everywhere. Walking around Brooklyn. My wife. The news.

TGLR: My brother recently turned me on to another one of your mixtapes, 1988. Where did you get the idea to remix Adele’s album?

Mick Boogie: I was a big Adele fan, and I reached out to Sony and we made it happen! Then she won all those Grammys and I looked really cool… haha.

TGLR: How did you get big? What was your first major step?

Mick Boogie: I don’t think I’m “big” yet but I’m hopefully on my way. The best thing you can do is network, network, network.

TGLR: How does one go about starting a mashup, and how do you figure out what songs would sound good together?

Mick Boogie: Find something that makes sense. Not just a novelty. There has to be a synergy there. Ask yourself… would the artists collaborate in real life?

TGLR: What are your future musical projects? Anything big in-store for 2010?

Mick Boogie: An Outkast tribute. And a Brooklyn indie band remix project.

TGLR: If you had to create a dream band, who would star in it?

Mick Boogie: Flea from the Chili Peppers. James Brown. Questlove. Harry Connick Jr. and Bobby McFerrin.

TGLR: Who do you see making the biggest impact in the music industry in 2010?

Mick Boogie: Drake.

TGLR: Where did you get the nickname, “The Commissioner”?

Mick Boogie: We had a deejay crew called The League, and every League has a Comissioner.

TGLR: Where do you see the music industry over the next three years?

Mick Boogie: Re-inventing itself. Hopefully becoming more profitable. And creative.

TGLR: If you had to choose five up and comers that will be doing it big in 2010, who would they be?

Mick Boogie: Chip Tha Ripper. U-N-I. OnCue. 6th Sense. Fly Union.

TGLR: What gave you the idea to create the Mick Boogie & PBJ: Re-Living Thing mixtape?

Mick Boogie: Pretty much the same as the Adele… I was a fan first, then we made it happen.

TGLR: What is your favorite way of giving music to your fans? Do you enjoy doing concerts or studio work more?

Mick Boogie: BOTH!

TGLR: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview with us, and we look forward to hearing more music from you in the near future!
